A great blog or social media post can only go so far without a great image to support it. Whether you’re promoting your latest real estate blog on Facebook or have a content marketing strategy that involves social media like Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Instagram—a quality photo can be just what you need to drive engagement and click-throughs. But where do you find high quality, free photos?
Stock photos have come a long way since the days of the “business men shaking hands” photo that would symbolize a real estate transaction. Check out these sites for photo inspiration:
Unsplash releases 10 new photos every 10 days, which are released under creative commons public domain use. These free high-resolution images are some of the best available.
StockSnap adds hundreds of new photos weekly and all photos are released under creative commons public domain use —with no attribution required. We love the handy search feature, which makes finding the perfect photo a breeze.
Home to some of the most unique stock photos on the web, Gratisography offers free high-resolution images free of copyright restrictions. Gratisography is the brainchild of Ryan McGuire of Bells Design.
A small library of premium stock photos, IM Free boasts some of the best free photos around. Attribution is required, and you’ll enjoy the easy user-friendly navigation.
Perhaps one of the most interesting stock image sites, New Old Stock provides a collection of antique photos —many of which were found in estate sales or taken by government agencies. Attribution is not required.
While you can’t search photos on this site, the images are great quality and taken by professional photographers. You could easily get lost browsing pictures for hours in this scroll-through site.
A product of Southern California, designer Jay Mantri updates his site weekly with new free photos that don’t require attribution.
Created by LEEROY creative agency, Life of PIx offers high-resolution images with no copyright restrictions —and new photos are added weekly.
This site is unique. Every month, they’ll send you a photo pack of 10 stock images directly to your inbox. They do have their own creative license, so be sure to read their website.
New photos are added daily to this site, and you’ll love how easy it is to search for what you’re looking for.
A note on attribution and licenses…
Many of the sites above offer photos that are free of copyright restrictions or are licensed under creative commons. This means you can copy, modify, or distribute the photos —even for commercial purposes without asking permission. However, some photos require attribution —meaning you give credit to the source. When in doubt, always double check the attribution and licensing requirements and err on the side of caution.
