There’s been plenty written about Facebook and Twitter marketing for real estate agents —and many agents have mastered these platforms. But, what about LinkedIn? More than just a place to stick your resume, many of today’s top-producing real estate professionals are adding LinkedIn to their real estate marketing strategy —and for good reason.
Whether you’re new to the site or have been a member for a long time, use these 4 strategies to make sure you’re leveraging the power of LinkedIn.
#1: Maximize Your Profile
Your LinkedIn profile should be professional, clear, and concise so that potential clients can quickly recognize your area of expertise. This starts with a professional photo. In fact, adding a professional photo to your profile makes you 14 times more likely to be found on LinkedIn.
Here are a few more tips for completing your profile:
Add Skills: What are your skills? Negotiation? Short sales? Commercial office buildings? Tenant representation? The skills section is a condensed version of your profile; it tells potential clients the value they’ll gain from working with you.
Add Certifications: This is the perfect section to add your real estate license, any designations you may have, and any outside certifications that you may have.
Don’t Overlook the Headline: Your headline is the perfect opportunity to quickly let visitors know who you are and what you do. It’s also used in search results, so be sure to add “real estate” and the area/city you specialize in, or other keywords that will help people find you.
Customize Your URL: LinkedIn automatically assigns an arbitrary URL to your profile, but you have the option of using your first and last name (www.linkedin.com/in/yourname) —use it! It’s easier to remember and to use for marketing efforts. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to change it.
#2: Build Your Rolodex
Now that your profile is ready, it’s time to make connections. The best place to start is by reaching out to your friends, colleagues, professional contacts, and existing clients via LinkedIn’s search feature. There is also an advanced search feature that allows you to search via location, career, and many other criteria.
#3: Join Groups
Groups are a great way to build your connections and increase your LinkedIn presence. A quick search for “Atlanta Real Estate”, for example, showed 77+ groups ranging from “Atlanta Retail Real Estate” to “Atlanta Real Estate Investment Club”. These groups are great places to share your insights and to become known as the go-to expert within your specialty.
#4: Produce and Curate Content
Perhaps the biggest strength to LinkedIn is your ability to produce and curate content to share with your sphere. In addition to curating, liking, and sharing content that others have created —use LinkedIn to create and share your own custom content.
