BLOG POST BY SARAH MALCOLM, CHIEF DIGITAL STRATEGIST AT THE NEWS FUNNEL
You’re tackling video in 2018, right?! It’s one of those important marketing efforts that can seem like it’s just going to be too much work, or money, to execute. But social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook have made it easier than ever to share your brand message or latest listing over an easy-to-film video.
With Facebook and Instagram livestreaming, you can use your laptop or cell phone to film a quick video at the click of the button. And because the video is live, it’s a huge opportunity for you to interact with your audience in real time.
But how do you make sure you’re using livestreaming in the right way? And that you’ll attract an audience to your videos by providing the right kind of content on the ideal platform? We’ll give you the tips and tricks you need to create the perfect livestream to not only keep your viewers engaged but to showcase your CRE expertise.
Make sure you’re in good lighting.
Have you ever tried to stay engaged in a video where you can barely see the person speaking on it because the lighting is so bad? It’s frustrating and annoying, especially when the bad lighting causes the video to appear fuzzy or pixelated. Make sure whatever you’re filming, especially if it’s yourself, has good lighting so that your audience can see you clearly and the picture is sharp.
Check your sound.
If you can use earbuds with an in-line microphone or a separate professional mic to film your livestream, you’ll have better sound than just using your built-in laptop or mobile phone microphone. If you’re filming outside, keep in mind that weather conditions like rain and wind can severely impact the quality of your sound. And viewers will have little patience watching a video they can’t hear!
Stabilize your camera.
If you’re filming your livestream with your mobile phone and even walking around to do something like a video walk-through of a property, it’s hard to keep your hand totally steady. But the last thing you want to do is give your prospective clients motion sickness with a shaky camera. You can purchase a phone stabilizer if you plan to do a lot of handheld videos, or use a mobile phone tripod on a desktop if you plan to only film yourself or others in your office.
Engage with your audience throughout the video.
One of the biggest advantages to live video is that you can interact with your viewers in real time. If you just film and don’t respond to those who have taken the time out of their day to respond live, you’re missing out on an excellent engagement opportunity. Make those relationships stickier with your potential clients by answering their questions right there during your live video.
Don’t let those worries about making your livestream perfect hold you back from actually doing it. The best thing you can do when it comes to marketing yourself and your CRE business is to take that big leap forward and actually do it!
