Start Real Estate Blogging, Part 2: Time to Get Writing

Real estate blogging executed well drives website traffic and generates leads. Don’t start on drafting without an objective or editorial schedule; visit the why the best-laid plans succeed first. Once your success roadmap is ready, it’s time to crack those knuckles and get to work punching the keys.

1) Budget Time

Ask any expert blogger, and they will emphasize the key to success is committing to writing time. In the multitasking world of real estate, it’s easy to drop blogging in favor of a dozen other essential tasks. Blogging success requires prioritizing writing time in your weekly schedule. Block time as you would for an important client. Include time for drafting and editing. Try not to write and revise in the same block of time.

2) Embrace Your Voice

If clients like your sense of humor, let your real estate blog make us laugh. Lay on that sassy personality, or be the friendliest realtor on the block. Whatever your special sauce, splattered it through your writing.

3) Write Compelling Content

Forced blogs read that way. Write as if talking to a client. Keywords are important, but stuffing paragraphs full of obvious search terms generates poor writing. Focus on engaging content and offering valuable advice to your audience. Breaking large topics into smaller chunks that you can dive into the nitty-gritty details helps keep the content succinct and appealing to readers. Before hitting publish, make sure you feel the content is worth your audience’s time.

4) Find the Right Picture

A picture is worth a thousand words on your blog. Yes, blogs need photos. Images help sell the content and are essential to optimizing your blog for SEO. Photo options include purchasing images from a source like iStock or Shutterstock, taking your own photos, or finding a free images website. Just make sure to add appropriate attribution to your images. Don’t skip this step.

5) Call to Action

Huzzah, the blog is live and attracting an audience! Pretend you are a reader and have reached the post’s end. Now what? Every blog should offer more content to the audience to drive them further into the sales process. Tell your readers what to do next with a compelling call to action. Ask them to subscribe to post updates. Offer a free white paper download like a office space inspection checklist or special neighborhood guide. Whatever the CTA offer, direct readers to the next steps and keep them engaged with your brand.

6) Track Your Analytics

The work does not stop after hitting “publish.” Optimize your posts by tracking performance. You’ll want to know what channels your audience came from, what topics receive the most traffic, and when readers are visiting. In short, schedule time for content audits. This knowledge refines your topic selection and content distribution plan.
